Emmanuel Macron went to the crisis center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this Friday, to take stock of the repatriation operations of French people stranded abroad, due to the epidemic of coronavirus.

The Head of State first spoke to "thank his agents mobilized in the management of the crisis and take stock of the repatriation of French people passing abroad," said the Elysee.

"Very complicated" operations

He is accompanied by the head of diplomacy Jean-Yves Le Drian and the Secretary of State Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne in the "telephone answer" room, where calls from French people wishing to return from abroad are answered. He then had to exchange views, by videoconference, with the embassies or consulates in Beijing and Wuhan, in China, and Rabat in Morocco.

More than 130,000 French people have been repatriated since March 16. Repatriation operations are "very complicated" and represent "hard work", recently explained Jean-Yves Le Drian, describing himself as "Minister of Foreign Affairs and logistician".

Coordinated repatriations with other European countries

Many tourist countries, from Morocco to Peru via the Dominican Republic, brutally closed their borders in March or suspended their flights to Europe, blocking many foreigners there. Certain repatriation operations are coordinated with other European countries in order to bring the maximum number of people as quickly as possible.

Since the beginning of the health crisis, Emmanuel Macron has multiplied trips to show himself on the ground in front of the actors who are fighting against the epidemic. He went to the Pasteur Institute with the researchers, in a hotel requisitioned for the homeless, last week visited the field hospital installed near Mulhouse and on Tuesday a mask factory on the outskirts of Angers.
