A group of scientists, doctors, funders and policy makers from more than 70 institutions in 30 countries launched an international alliance, to respond to the requirements to contain the Corona epidemic in resource-poor countries.

The Clinical Research Alliance - which was launched on Thursday - aims to accelerate research on containing and treating the Corona epidemic in areas with scarce resources, where the virus can destroy fragile health systems and spread rapidly among the population.

The famous medical journal, "The Lancet" stated that members of the coalition confirm that international cooperation and coordination in the field of research are urgently required to support Africa, Latin America, Eastern Europe and some Asian countries to respond effectively to the escalating epidemic and accelerate research in this regard.

The alliance includes an unprecedented group of health experts, including public sector research institutes, ministries of health, academic institutions, non-profit research and development organizations, as well as international funders.

The Alliance seeks to facilitate the task of collecting data from all regions in a similar manner, and sharing it at the same time, in the hope of helping countries and WHO make rapid decisions on policies and practices.

"We welcome the launch of this alliance, which benefits from current multinational experiences and specialties in managing clinical trials in poor settings," said Sumaya Swaminathan, senior scientist at the World Health Organization.

Coalition members hope to provide new, effective treatments for the virus as soon as possible, that they are low-cost and readily available in less developed countries.
