The decision was made at an extra board meeting following a request from the Norrbotten Region that all ski resorts should close due to the corona pandemic.

"It was not an easy decision to make, but all actors must, in the extremely strained situation we find ourselves in, take responsibility for not collapsing health care," says Alexander Kult, CEO of Dundret in a press release.

- We understand that many people will be very disappointed, Easter and the whole of April is by tradition the most sought-after month for all skiers, but we certainly do not want to risk unnecessarily burdening health care by continuing to have the facility open, says Jeanette Wäppling, Chairman of the Board of Dundret Gällivare Fjällanlægningar AB.

The region's appeal is crucial

The Norrbotten region's appeal to all ski resorts was decisive for the decision.

- In this serious situation, we step forward and take our social responsibility even though it feels very sad to close when the season is hottest and conditions are absolutely best, but I am convinced that our guests understand the decision, says Tobias Larsson, operations manager at Dundret.

Unclear with the consequences

The financial consequences of the closure for Dundret are not yet clear.

- It will definitely mean a financial loss when the best month of the season disappears, but given the serious crisis that the whole world has been thrown into because of the corona center, it feels like a secondary issue for the day. Now, the most important thing is everyone, both individual citizens and companies, taking their responsibility and following the instructions given by the authorities, says Alexander Kult.

All season ticket holders will be compensated for the closure.

Lapland Resorts announced on Thursday evening that the facilities in Björkliden and the Swedish National border will remain open during Easter. The plant in Kåbdalis has also decided this.
