Although most of Netflix’s original works are American, the most popular platform is not without work from other countries, some of which are already achieving great successes, such as “La Casa de Papel” and “Elite” from Spain, and came The German series "Freud", which is currently on stage, to compete for the sights.

Freud who we do not know

Many know the great scientist Sigmund Freud as one of the founders of psychiatry, but they do not know much about the other details of his life and his past, and the photos that we have learned about him appear to be a very confident and elegant person, and some interested people may know his relationship with his student Karl Jung and their subsequent disagreement, but what concerns Freud's beginnings are not known to the same degree, and the makers of the series chose these beginnings to be their gateway to events.

The series takes place in the 1980s, when Freud was still young, and trying to prove the value of the method of hypnosis in the treatment of hysteria patients, and he does not find much resistance from his teachers and colleagues alike, except Dr. Joseph Bruyer, and as a result he does not find enough opportunity To try his medical methods, until he clashes with the young Flor Fleume, who asks him to treat her in his own way, because she feels fits in which she travels into a past that she does not remember.

When we say that the makers of the series present us with "Freud", which we do not know, we do not mean by this that they focused only on the stage of his youth, but rather that they chose one of the details of Freud's life, and built on them other details that make us finally see a series that belongs to the type of suspense more than we know On the life of Freud.

The episodes take the names of various theories about which Freud wrote, but we do not enter into any scientific details or quirky research about the nature of these theories, in contrast, the teaser takes the most prominent aspect of the series, as successive murders occur in which prominent people in the Vienna society, in which they take place Juveniles, and there does not seem to be any link between them, and with the passage of events we gradually discover the forces that were the cause of these crimes.

Thrill first

Since the first episode, we have witnessed a dark atmosphere appropriate to the situation of suspense and crime presented by the business scenario, and with each episode new clues unfolding to branch out to find the involvement of policemen and politics in the case that we follow.

With almost the second episode, we discover that the presence of Freud's name specifically as the hero of the series has some deception, as the atmosphere of dark crime seems more bright than revealing details about the personality of Freud himself, so we feel that we are facing "Sherlock Holmes" with some slight modifications, and not before a psychiatrist at its beginnings .

Although we watch Freud's attempts to use hypnosis to discover the hidden details of Fleur's character, at the same time we find her observations of the past and the acquisition acquired by others closer to metaphysics than to psychiatry. Rather, in the midst of events, the work makers forget to tell us how Freud suddenly mastered the use of hypnosis with the alternative to the pendulum, as we find him suddenly discovering this talent in himself, and he masters it without introductions or convincing research, as if he was born with this talent.

Given that hypnosis used in film and television is usually naively depicted out of fact, a work called "Freud" had to do more to explain the scientific aspects of the methods used within it.

But if we forget that we are supposed to face Freud, the most famous psychiatrist, and deal with us on the understanding that we are facing a series of suspense, we will find what we can really enjoy, as director Marvin Crane exerts a tangible effort to establish a state of mystery, most of the external scenes are nighttime, while the internal scenes remain Party scenes are a state of tension as a result of dialogue and characters that warn of the emergence of a new danger all the time, and with a past of conflicts and disputes between several personalities widening the circle of viewing, we do not focus only on Freud and Fluor, but on several other personalities, each with its own struggle.

But these conflicts were a double-edged sword: some of them consumed a long time of events, which kept us a little further from the main line, but the distinctive acting performance of most of the actors made it acceptable.

Another factor that can be considered from the gains of this series, which is the old city of Vienna the scene of events, as we used to watch ancient Britain at such a time in many films, but the city of Vienna did not appear this intense, which made watching the details of it enjoyable, from palaces, houses and streets, Even clothes.

Freud may not seem particularly powerful business, but what he did in his first season is sufficient for the emergence of a second season, and although he will certainly not achieve exceptional success as the Spanish series "House of Cards" did, we may wait for more to see a stronger start of German series on Netflix.
