Retirement homes affected by covid-19 - several people infected

In Norrköping, it is known that 16 users are confirmed infected, two are in hospitals and 18 are suspected infected and await trial answers.

- I have asked the business to look at how many homes have been affected, but I know it is scattered, says Magnus Johansson, Director of Health and Care in Norrköping.

Staff have also been infected. Johansson, however, states that the absence was rather less than with ordinary influenza. There will be a report on the situation later today.

- The latest I know of is 41 suspected infected and 10 confirmed by about 4,000 employees.

Have you taken any specific action?

- We lean towards the region's recommendations and so there is a ban on visits. We have protective equipment, but there is a lack of mouth protection. We can do it now but we have no margins.

Norrköping Municipality has requested extra staff to meet the needs of the elderly.

- Our staff does a wonderful job, but there is a limit to them too and now we have to help them.

Also in Linköping, covid-19 has got a grip on the elderly.

- I know we have the infection at six of our elderly homes but how many people who are infected or are suspected infected I can not say at present, says Linda Ljungqvist, social and care director in Linköping.
