Wednesday evening, a couple living in Wattrelos, near Roubaix, in the North, were hospitalized in the service of burn victims of the Lille University Hospital, we learned from the firefighters. The man and woman were injured in the fire in their home, believed to have been caused by one of them during an argument.

Around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, no less than 24 firefighters and several vehicles were necessary to put an end to the fire which was ravaging the ground floor of a house located rue de l'Union, in Wattrelos. Rescue workers took care of the two occupants of the house, who were badly burned. The couple in their fifties was admitted in a worrying state to the service of burn victims of the Lille hospital center.

"A marital dispute that went wrong"

The police services have opened an investigation "in order to define the precise circumstances of this tragedy," said the Lille prosecutor's office at 20 Minutes . The same source nonetheless assures us that “no hypothesis is favored for the moment. "

However, a source close to the investigation told AFP that the fire "probably" started from a "voluntary step by one of the two members of the couple in the context of an argument". The mayor of the town, Dominique Baert believes that everything "started from a marital dispute that went wrong, probably under the influence of alcohol". But the police source and the elected official refused to point to the responsibility of either, for lack of a direct witness to the facts.

But, according to another police source, it is the man who is suspected of having sprayed his partner with highly flammable solvent before setting it on fire. The latter managed to warn the neighbors while her husband torched the apartment.
