On March 12, a health center in Torsås municipality closed after a person staying in the premises and having contact with the staff was found to be infected by the new corona virus. Two weeks later, elderly residents became ill at an elderly home in the municipality. However, there is no known connection between the events in the Kalmar County region.

- The stage where we can see who has infected who is over now. Now we have a spread of infection in the county which, in a way, is uncontrollable, says assistant infection prevention physician in the Kalmar County Per-Åke Jarnheimer region.

The reason why the region no longer tracks infection to the same extent as before is partly due to lack of resources and partly because the spread of infection is found in the county and thus it becomes impossible to know how infected people in covid-19 are.

- It was easier before, when we had patients who were in the Alps and we knew they were infected there, but now we see a greater spread, says Per-Åke Jarnheimer.
