The healthcare company Family Physicians is responsible for the medical care of a little less than half of the elderly residents in the Stockholm region. So far, 230 elderly patients have been diagnosed with covid-19 in 45 of the homes where their doctors work. 50 of those patients have died.

- These are the craziest patients we have and both for patients' sake and their care, it is important that they continue to be cared for where they are. But that requires that the employees have the right protective equipment, ”Stefan Amér, Head of Family Families, tells SVT.

Large lack of protective material

He says that the elderly, where many are multi-ill, receive good care for the elderly, but notes that the lack of protective materials leads to major problems.

- The problem is that in many places you only have protective material for days or at worst hours ahead. This creates great concern among the staff of the homes, which can lead to great absenteeism if they dare not work, says Stefan Amér, Head of Family Family Services.

Stefan Amér now wants the Stockholm region to control protective equipment to an even greater extent to the elderly, given the number of infected people there.

- The region has difficulty prioritizing municipal activities, but care must be taken with the patient and the staff who care for corona patients. Whether they receive salaries from the municipality or the region, says Stefan Amér, Head of Family Medicine.

It is unclear how big the total infections are for elderly people

Also the health care company Capio Legevisitten, which has about the same amount of care for the elderly residents in the Stockholm region as the Family doctors, confirms that they have infected the elderly, but do not want to state any number.

SVT News has unsuccessfully sought a total figure for the number of infected people in elderly homes via the press service at Region Stockholm.

The Echo in Sweden's radio today states that at least 90 municipalities have so far had infected or suspected infected covid-19 cases in their elderly homes.
