French soldiers in the Sahel were not spared from the Covid-19 pandemic. Four officers participating in the Barkhane military operation in West Africa have tested positive for the coronavirus, the French army headquarters announced on Thursday 2 April.

One of them is treated on the spot, the three others were repatriated, just like another officer who is symptomatic without having been tested, he added, specifying that all cases "contact" have been identified and placed in the fortnight in a dedicated area, where they are subject to enhanced medical surveillance.

"These cases of contamination, as well as the measures taken to preserve the personnel of the Force, have no impact on the operations, which continue at a sustained pace," said Colonel Frédéric Barbry, spokesperson. of the general staff of the armies.
