The 10,000 dead mark of the Covid-19 has been crossed in Spain. The Ministry of Health reported Thursday, April 2, 950 additional deaths in the space of 24 hours.

The country now has 110,238 cases of Covid-19 contamination, an increase of 8,102 cases in 24 hours, the ministry added. However, the growth in the number of new cases continues to slow.

Spain is the second most bereaved country in the world by the epidemic after Italy.

Economic activities not essential to stopping

On Sunday, the Spanish government further tightened the containment by ordering the halt until April 9 of all "non-essential" economic activities, a measure targeting construction and industry in particular.

These measures have already had a strong impact on the economy. Spain registered 302,265 new jobseekers in March due to "the extraordinary impact of the Covid-19 health crisis," the Labor Ministry said on Thursday.

A total of 898,822 people have lost their jobs in Spain since the implementation of the containment measures, including around 550,000 temporary workers.
