In order to meet the increased need for healthcare personnel during the corona pandemic, several municipalities in Östergötland have decided to seek additional staff. On Wednesday, the Municipality of Linköping concluded that they were applying for more care. Between 15.00 and the evening, they received 50 applications.

- From three o'clock yesterday to last night we had 50 applicants, 17 of whom had nursing experience. It is as expected as only a few hours have passed. We believe that Linköping's citizens will agree on this. We cannot anticipate the need in this situation, but work on the basis of several scenarios to be ready for as much as possible, writes Sonja Erlandsson, HR director in Linköping Municipality in an e-mail to SVT Nyheter Öst.

"A great response"

Norrköping, Valdemarsvik and Finspång are other municipalities in Östergötland that have decided to seek additional personnel. The Gotland Region, which serves as both region and municipality, has also sought additional staff.

- It has been a great response. Prio now are nurses who should be able to get into different positions. We have a campaign outside the region, but we are also looking at how to redistribute employees within the organization. Because Gotland is both region and municipality in the same, for example school nurses may be relevant, says Nina Ljung, who is HR director at Region Gotland.

The response was also good in Norrköping municipality.

- It has been very good. We will start training next week if we get a premium. We want to be one step ahead, ”says Magnus Johansson.
