Compared to Stockholm, there are significantly fewer people who are admitted to the region's hospitals and who receive intensive care here in Västra Götaland.

- There are more and more people who are infected, but it is a steady increase in rates, says Magnus Gisslén, professor and chief physician at the infection clinic at Sahlgrenska University Hospital / Östra.

Can be likened to Spanish disease

Magnus Gisslén meets corona-infected patients daily, and works close to both severe and mild cases. He says that the care is in a situation that can only be compared to that under Spanish sickness more than a century ago.

- This is a very special situation, and it is a pandemic that is terrible, but it does not create as much stress for the staff at the infection clinic as we are trained to be able to handle such situations.

Not as crowded as in Stockholm

He goes on to say that many people are already working overtime in the hospital, and will certainly be able to work even more in the near future.

- We expect to see a stronger increase, but we haven't seen it yet.

So he continues:

- The greatest stress is on intensive care. This is where the most severely ill are treated and there we have more patients admitted every day. It does, of course, cause it to be squeezed, but we do not have a situation as pressing as in Stockholm.
