The murder at the school in Kortedala has shocked both children and adults. The district administration therefore rushed to put in resources to alleviate the fears one would fear.

- The district administration has supported the compulsory school in this work. We have had social security secretaries and curators on site these days, as well as making sure that a leisure yard at the school is open every day until eight o'clock in the evenings. There, it has been possible to receive both troubled students and worried parents, says district director Gitte Caous.

MEETING TO GIVE iNFORMATION

Gitte Caous, district director in East Gothenburg.

That the knife-cut twelve-year-old died told the school staff at a special meeting on Wednesday afternoon. On site there were, among other things, Student Health. At the same time, students and their guardians were told what had happened. Many students had already left school for the day.

- The school will be open during the evening as well, and a memorial room will be organized there, designed for staff, students and friends, says Marie Ohman, Head of Communication at the Compulsory School Administration.

- We are trying to digest what has happened. It is so tragic that we find it difficult to find words. We need to gather our thoughts, she adds.

Get reactions

But so far, the reactions from both students and residents in the area have been significantly fewer than expected, says Gitte Caous.

- Actually, there has not been much concern. These are the signals I've received. On the contrary, it has been very quiet. Our interpretation is that it can partly be because the boy who passed away only every twelve years - and at that age you may not be so much at leisure farms or in the city - and partly that it may have to do with covid-19.

The infection has led to many parents staying home.

- Thus, they have been available in a completely different way to their children and have been able to meet them in grief. We have been on our toes to meet any concerns after this, but it has been very quiet.

Gitte Caous also says that thoughts can naturally come at a later stage as well.

- But we are there when needed.
