According to the official Syrian News Agency (SANA), Syrian air defenses on Tuesday night responded to missiles fired by Israeli warplanes from Lebanese airspace at targets in eastern Homs in central Syria.

The agency said that "the air defense media in the Syrian Arab Army responded to an Israeli aggression with rockets in eastern Homs and dropped a number of them before they reached their targets."

And "SANA" quoted a military source as saying that on Tuesday night, "Israeli warplanes over Lebanon launched a group of missiles towards eastern Homs, and immediately our air defense media responded to the enemy missiles and dropped a number of them."

For its part, sources in the Syrian opposition revealed that the Israeli bombing of the Al-Shearat airport in Homs Governorate, central Syria, targeted a high-level meeting of officers from the Syrian and Iranian army, including the commander of the Iranian Quds Force.

The sources confirmed that "the bombing that occurred at Sha’irat airport on Tuesday evening, with Israeli warplanes from the Lebanese airspace, targeted Iranian military transport aircraft, and a meeting of a number of leaders of the Revolutionary Guards and the Lebanese Hezbollah, including the new commander of the Quds Force, Ismail Qani."

The sources pointed out that "high-level security leaders headed from the capital, Damascus, with hovercraft to the airport."

It is noteworthy that Israel has intensified its bombardment in Syria in recent years, targeting mainly Syrian army positions and Iranian and other targets of the Lebanese Hezbollah.
