The fact-finding mission on the management of the coronavirus epidemic will hear the Prime Minister Édouard Philippe and the Minister of Health Olivier Véran on Wednesday April 1st. Created last week, this mission aims to monitor every week the measures taken by the government.

The presidents of all political groups will be members of this mission "on the impact, management and consequences in all its dimensions of the epidemic". It should be chaired by the President of the National Assembly, Richard Ferrand (LREM).

Several groups hope that the mission will be able to endow itself with the prerogatives of a commission of inquiry, some arguing that it should not be before the summer, or even the fall, because "the aim is to learn the lessons from the crisis" . The opposition also pleads for a "democratic balance" with an opposition rapporteur.

Sick evacuated to Brittany

France, which crossed the milestone of 3,500 coronavirus deaths on Tuesday, continues on Wednesday to evacuate patients to relieve the most saturated regions with, for the first time since Ile-de-France, two medical TGVs which will join Brittany.

Three months to the day after the first alert by the World Health Organization to unexplained lung diseases in China, France recorded on Tuesday a new record increase in the number of coronavirus deaths: 499 in 24 hours, one death every three minutes.

According to the latest report from the authorities, the epidemic killed 3,523 people. The number of intensive care patients more than doubled in one week and reached 5,565 on Tuesday evening (+458).

The number of deaths in France now exceeds the official toll in China (3,305). But many experts, based in particular on the high number of funeral urns that families have started to recover in China, consider this official Chinese assessment largely underestimated.
