Starting today (1st), the United States will enforce unpaid leave for Korean workers working in the USFK. Foreigners voiced concerns and criticism in terms of the ROK-US alliance and the readiness of North Korea.

The United States has been criticized for using the wages of Korean workers in the USFK as a pawn to drastically increase defense expenditures, despite the South Korean proposal to first address the issue of paying Korean workers' labor costs.

However, as the two sides reached a considerable opinion on the last minute, the conclusion of the negotiations was said to have reached the beginning.

Bloomberg News published an article yesterday in local time saying, 'Unpaid leave for US military base workers, hitting alliance with Korea'.

He said the unpaid leave would put new pressure on the alliance, which has repeatedly criticized US President Donald Trump three years ago.

In particular, the move was made while US troops are trying to block the disruption of operations following the spread of Corona 19 in South Korea, etc., while allies are watching further provocations by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Reuters also pointed out that the US action was taken in a fight against the outbreak of Corona19, which puts economic pressure on many residents of the base.

North Korea has also continued to launch missile tests, adding, "Korea is concerned that unpaid leave will weaken its military readiness."
