  • Fracture: the challenge of the Franco-German axis against the coronavirus: sovereignty first or the unity of the European project

The Irish Government has gone out of its way with a number of tips on safe sex in the coronavirus era , including a recommendation to "not kiss anyone outside the home", to "pause" face-to-face encounters and to wear preferably "sexting" and chat rooms.

The guidelines of the Executive Health Service (HSE) warn that masturbation does not spread the coronavirus, but recommend a "hygienic" version , with washing hands (and sex toys) with soap for at least twenty seconds before and after.

Ireland was one of the first countries to order the closure of "non-essential" schools and shops, on March 13, in the initial phase of the epidemic and with only around thirty confirmed coronavirus cases, in contrast to the delay in the United Kingdom. -including Northern Ireland- when taking drastic measures.

Prime Minister Leo Varadkar went further over the weekend, appealing to the Irish "community spirit" and imposing new restrictions with fines of up to 2,500 euros and six-month prison terms. So far there have been 54 deaths from coronavirus and 2,910 confirmed cases (in a country of 4.8 million inhabitants).

97% of Irish people support the measures promoted by the Government, which only allows them to leave home to shop, attend to vulnerable people or do physical exercise once a day within a radius of two kilometers.

Beyond the physical restrictions in daily life, medical authorities have launched a sexual information campaign to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The first recommendation is "avoid being sexually active with someone outside the home," with a very clear warning: "Kissing can easily spread the disease . "

"It is worth considering a pause in face-to-face interactions," warns the HSE. "You can consider using video clips, sexting, or sex chatting ... Be sure to disinfect keyboards and displays you share with someone."

The guidelines also prevent against oral sex and recommend the use of condoms or latex mouth gaps. "Wash your hands before and after sex," conclude the Irish health authorities. "This is more important than ever: wash your hands carefully with soap and water."
