Spain is at war with the new corona virus. According to AP, Spanish authorities state that their intensive care units in at least half of the country's regions are soon full, which has led to several provisional solutions.

Hotel rooms have been transformed into hospital halls. Libraries, sports facilities and exhibition halls have been transformed into field hospitals and an ice cream parlor in Madrid has been transformed into a stretcher.

Respirators move between the regions so that the worst-affected areas get their needs met, and according to Maria José Sierra of the Spanish Health Authority's emergency coordination department, patients cannot be ruled out.

There is hope

But despite the night-black situation with scarce resources and 8,188 confirmed dead, there are flashes of light: On Monday, the BBC reported that the number of new infected per day in Spain is now increasing by 12 percent, compared with 20 percent per day before March 25.

- It is true that we are seeing a slight increase today, says José Sierra according to TT, but then explains that the downward trend previously noted continues.

Heavy restrictions

In order to continue blocking the progress of the virus, Spain has imposed strict restrictions. According to TT, religious gatherings have been banned until April 11 and funeral or memorial ceremonies are not allowed in the home.

Burials are still permitted, but only three participants may attend, provided they also keep a distance of at least two meters from each other.

In addition, no one may leave home except to go to work, seek care or make the necessary purchases. All stores besides grocery stores, pharmacies and those who sell necessary items are closed.
