For some time now, guards have been standing and checking the entrance to the Employment Service in Uppsala. Visitors are admitted to the premises to reduce the number of physical meetings in the room.

The pressure is hard on the authority. Over the past two weeks, new registrations have reached higher levels - and Sunday's notifications in Uppsala had counted to 571. The figure for the same month last year was 45.

Unemployment is rising

Unemployment is also rising in the county, which has historically been at a low level. At the last measurement in February, it was 5.9 percent.

- This will hit hard for many jobs and people, especially those who are already far from the labor market, such as young people, people with disabilities or new arrivals, says Emelie Preinitz.

During a press conference on Tuesday, the government announced that it is forecasting a national unemployment rate of nine percent this year.
