The Minister of Public Accounts, Gérald Darmanin, announced Tuesday that he postponed from April 9 to 20 the opening of the declaration on income and that he suspended tax controls especially in the sectors most affected by the coronavirus crisis .

"I made the decision, after informing the Prime Minister, to postpone the tax return for a week," he said on TF1. "We should have declared our income from April 9. We will do so from April 20," he said.

Darmanin, who referred taxpayers to the online tax site to find out how much time they have to complete their tax return by region, also said that people who file on paper could file it until 12 June, one month longer than initially planned.

The Minister also stressed that the current tax audits would be suspended and that there would be no new ones during this period of confinement in sectors "at a standstill" such as catering.

"In this extremely particular period, I gave instructions (...) to suspend the controls which existed before the crisis (...) and not to actually carry out the tax controls in particular in the fields which are stopped and d 'rather be in support of businesses,' he said.
