A painting by Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh has been stolen from a museum in the Netherlands, which is currently closed to the public due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the establishment's general manager announced on Monday.

"There was a break-in yesterday (Sunday) evening and a Van Gogh painting was stolen," said Evert van Os, director general of the Singer Laren museum (center), in a video. the painting "Nuenen presbytery garden in spring".

Thieves forced the glass front door of the building to steal the 1884 painting, estimated to be between one and six million euros, according to Dutch media.

The burglary took place in the night from Sunday to Monday around 3:15 am, police said.

The work was loaned to Singer Laren by the Groningen museum (north) as part of an exhibition dedicated to Dutch art.

The Singer Laren Museum, located about 30 km from Amsterdam, is closed until at least June 1, the Dutch government having banned all public gatherings to combat the spread of the new coronavirus.
