In one month, 36,800 people in Sweden have been notified of dismissal according to new figures from the employment service.

"These are the highest figures we have ever seen," says Annika Sundén, head of analysis at the Employment Service.

Even in Småland, the corona epidemic and the economic crisis mean that more and more people are at risk of losing their jobs.

Sharp increase in the last few weeks

In the first two weeks of March, only 39 people were notified in total in Kalmar and Kronoberg. In the last two weeks, the number of notifications increased more than tenfold - to 557 people. 302 of them work in Kalmar and 257 in Kronoberg.

The largest proportion of alerts in Sweden is found in staffing, as well as hotels and the restaurant industry - which has also been affected in Småland.

Shortly after the Employment Service presented the new figures, the Government announced that the requirements for obtaining unemployment benefit will be reduced.
