In the past 24 hours, Spain has recorded 812 additional deaths from coronavirus, an increase in fatal cases of about 12%, a rate lower than the previous days, announced on Monday 30 March, the Ministry of health.

The second European country most affected by the pandemic now has 7,340 deaths caused by the coronavirus. The total number of confirmed cases increased at the same time by 8%, from 78,797 to 85,195 patients, more than China, where the coronavirus appeared in the fall.

These latest figures show a slowdown in the progression of the pandemic in the Iberian Peninsula. Last Wednesday, health authorities reported a 27% increase in the number of deaths and 19% in the total number of cases.

On Sunday, the number of deaths had increased by 15% and the contaminations by 9%.

Contaminated emergency director too

The director of the health emergency coordination center at the Ministry of Health, Fernando Simon, was in turn contaminated by SARS-CoV-2, announced an official of the ministry who replaced him for the daily press point.

Maria Jose Sierra added that the contamination curve has tended to settle since last Wednesday.

Spain went into containment on March 14, three days before France. These emergency measures to curb the transmission of the coronavirus have been extended until at least April 12, and the president of the socialist government, Pedro Sanchez, ordered this weekend two weeks' home confinement from March 30. as of April 9, of all Spanish employees with the exception of those working in essential sectors.
