The intermediate destination was what funerals used to be called, but the bodies are hardly seen anymore in Madrid. The transit, to use the elusive funeral jargon, has changed a lot. Death, in fact, has changed as much as life . Those who die in Madrid's crowded public hospitals have an extravagant intermediate fate. They rest conserved between 8 and 10 degrees below zero on the skating rink of a blue and white commercial mass with a name that now seems sarcastic.
