The Iraqi Hezbollah Hezbollah has returned to the forefront of events after a US official revealed in statements reported by the Washington Post newspaper that indications that these brigades are seeking to attack American forces, and that they have become more aggressive, at a time when the administration of President Donald Trump is discussing confrontational options.

And the founder of the battalions is Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, deputy head of the Popular Mobilization Authority, who was killed with the commander of the Iranian Quds Force Qassem Soleimani in an air strike near Baghdad airport on January 3, and reports that he was the actual leader from its founding in April 2007 until his death .

And at the end of last February, Washington included the Secretary General of the Brigades, Ahmad al-Hamidawi, in the terrorism list, after more than ten years after naming these brigades as a "terrorist organization" in 2009.

The Iraqi Hezbollah Brigades are distinguished by their large military capabilities, and they are considered among the main factions that launch attacks on the international coalition forces and American interests.

The Hezbollah Brigades describe itself as a "resistance Islamic jihadist formation", and according to its official website, its goal is to "achieve the rule of Islam, which represents the wilayat of al-Faqih as the best way to achieve it," referring to the principle of guardianship of the wali al-Faqih formally adopted in the Iranian regime.

The brigades are under the Popular Mobilization Organization, which was established after the Islamic State invaded large parts of north and northwest of Iraq in 2014, and includes 72 armed formations linked to the Office of the Commander in Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, who is himself the Prime Minister.

High capabilities
The Hezbollah Brigades are distinguished from other groups of the PMF by possessing high combat capabilities that they gained from their armed action against American forces since their establishment in 2007 until the end of 2011, the date of the American withdrawal from Iraq, and they possess high capabilities to develop, manufacture and use ballistic missiles, in coordination with Their intelligence units.

According to (unofficial) reports, at least seven thousand fighters who receive their salaries from the Popular Mobilization Authority are formed by the "Hezbollah" brigades, and they are distributed among several armed brigades spread in western Iraq on the Syrian borders and other Iraqi regions, in addition to Syria, where it has more From 1500 fighters.

Western reports confirm that they are operating in complete independence from other units associated with the Popular Mobilization Authority.

The Hezbollah Brigades are taking the greatest effort in the indirect conflict between Washington and Tehran, which have taken Iraq as a platform to settle their accounts through a "semi-open" confrontation between the United States and the international coalition forces on the one hand, and Iran through the factions loyal to it on the other.

It is expected that the American-Iranian conflict in Iraq will witness an escalation in the intensity of the attacks launched by the Shiite factions in the coming period, with the possibility of the United States resorting to new policies that bypass the reaction to a more deterrent policy that aims at the end to protect the American presence in Iraq by undermining the offensive capabilities. These factions - especially the "Hezbollah" brigades - through preemptive strikes.

The United States does not have enough basic capabilities to protect its soldiers and interests in Iraq and to prevent attacks by allied forces of Iran that killed and wounded a number of soldiers, and Washington is trying to prevent this in the future by redeploying its forces and reducing their whereabouts in the fewest "common" bases with the security forces Iraq, and US forces have already withdrawn from three military bases this month, the last of which is its air base in Kirkuk.

According to reports on March 11th, quoting US officials, Washington intends to introduce anti-drones air defense systems and other anti-ballistic missile systems to protect US forces and interests in Iraq from any attacks.
