March 29, 2020 The ordinance that allocates 400 million to municipalities to distribute food aid to those in need has been signed by the Head of Civil Protection Angelo Borrelli.

The final text confirms that the contribution for each municipality cannot be less than 600 euros. 80% of the total, 320 million, is distributed among administrations according to population, while 20%, 80 million, is distributed according to the difference between per capita income and national average income.

Municipalities can therefore distribute the 400 million allocated by the government for the purchase of vouchers that can be used for the purchase of food or to buy and distribute food and basic necessities directly. The amount of the shopping vouchers is not specified in the text. The social services office of each municipality identifies the audience of beneficiaries: priority is given to those who are not already recipients of other public support (such as citizenship income). While for the purchase and distribution of goods, third sector entities can be used. Municipalities can also allocate the funds deriving from any donations to the purchase of food, which can flow into specifically opened bank current accounts.
