In the corona virus's wake, there are many tips and advice on how best to protect yourself against the new disease. Colloidal silver and vitamin C have been presented in various contexts as effective methods of protection.

- I have personally seen an increase of this kind of thing, not least in social media. You have to be vigilant against this, says Consumer Minister Lena Micko (S) to SVT News.

"Contrary to laws and regulations"

On her Facebook page, she has now gone out and warned of all ads for questionable health products in social media.

- I want to remind you not to believe everything you read, whether it's fish oils, colloidal silver or large doses of vitamin C as miracle cures for covid-19.

In some cases, health advice can be shared by health food companies, and in other cases by alternative news sites.

- I think it is remarkable and cynical to make money on concerns. This is disinformation that misleads, and violates laws and regulations, says Lena Micko.

She says that this is something you have seen in other major crises, and that many elderly people have been exposed to rogue players.

- We are monitoring this all the time, and we will follow up and see what happens.

"Be vigilant!"

Now she wants to urge all consumers to be vigilant.

- Generally speaking, one should be sound skeptical. You have a responsibility yourself too. And health food advice can be good, so it's not about judging an entire industry.

She also has a message for those who spread health advice.

- Sharpen it. Sooner or later you will be held accountable if you are unkind.
