Last year, the number of patients receiving care in a different department than they should have increased with regard to their diagnosis compared to previous years. The reason is the lack of care places.

Chief physician Peter Janson describes the situation as "very strained".

- In 2019, we were allowed to bring in a care department. We did, of course, create some places in other departments, but on the whole we could not keep up the number of spring seats. In addition, we have a staff shortage of this, he says.

Will get worse this year

The ongoing coronavirus outbreak is also expected to make the care location even worse in Blekinge.

- In the situation we are now facing with an approaching and ongoing threat in the form of Covid-19, it will not get any better, says Peter Janson.

The hospital is now working to change its procedures to better understand how patients are affected by being cared for in the wrong ward.

- We have taken measures that will enable us in future to link the relocation to a possible spring injury in a simpler way. It is important to adapt our deviation system to make it possible to more clearly mark the patients who are dislocated, says Peter Janson.
