The Yemeni government welcomed the call by the UN envoy, Martin Griffiths, for a comprehensive ceasefire and agreement on a mechanism to unify efforts and measures to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus epidemic in Yemen.

Griffiths called on the parties to the conflict in Yemen yesterday to abide by what they said and give the Yemeni people the best interests of everything.

Griffiths said in a statement that the repeated calls for peace by Yemenis from various political and social components and spectrums were a clear message to political leaders, namely, stopping the war to confront the Corona pandemic.

He added that those appeals demanded the cessation of military confrontations as an immediate measure to protect Yemenis from the virus, and to work together to prevent its spread.

The UN envoy renewed his invitation to the parties to hold an urgent meeting to discuss ways of translating the commitments they had made before the Yemeni people into reality.

He said he looked forward to the parties complying with the Yemeni desire for peace by immediately halting the fighting and making concessions.
