North Macedonia joins North Atlantic Treaty Organization
On March 27 local time, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) announced on its official website that North Macedonia officially joined NATO and became its 30th member state.
It is reported that North Macedonia has submitted its instruments of accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization to the US State Department and has become the latest member of NATO. NATO member states signed the draft North Macedonia accession agreement in February 2019. Prior to this, all 29 member parliaments have voted to ratify their accession.
NATO Secretary-General Stoltenberg spoke in Brussels on March 27, saying that Macedonia is now part of the NATO family, which consists of 30 countries and has a population of nearly 1 billion. North Macedonia has always contributed to security in the Euro-Atlantic region, including having participated in NATO-led missions in Afghanistan and Kosovo.
On March 30, NATO will hold a flag-raising ceremony for North Macedonia at its headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. (Headquarters reporter Ma Jinjin)
