"There must be some mistake", "this is going to happen to all governments", "to think now about political responsibility is to have an unconscious perspective". With these statements, former Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero has come to the aid of the Pedro Sánchez government, trying to justify the fiasco of the purchase of thousands of rapid tests of the Covid-19, which were ultimately useless due to their low quality.

In an interview on RNE, Zapatero has played down the stumbling block that has forced the Ministry of Health to return almost 9,000 tests, the first installment of a 640,000 game that now suffers a delay that the health system cannot afford.

The former president has preferred to praise "the gigantic effort" that the coalition government is making to try to curb the pandemic and protect the citizenry. In this sense, he has emphasized that criticizing the Executive and asking for political responsibilities is "having a poor perspective", "an unconscious perspective".

"What has happened with the tests," he predicted, "will happen to all governments, or it will have already happened to them. They are new tests that have been being approved at full speed and well ... not to mention the material that all the countries are collecting massively. Some error must have ".

Zapatero's explanations, however, do not agree with those of the Community of Madrid, who assures that the tests were delivered to him by the Ministry of Health without validation and without checking if they worked. In fact, their sensitivity to detect infection was only 30% compared to the 80% required as a minimum. The minister himself, Salvador Illa, admitted in the Health Commission of Congress that the tests were sent to the Community warning that they had to be validated.

The former president has insisted that the coronavirus crisis is the "most difficult" that a government has had to face since the Transition. The difference, he said, "is abysmal."

Also, on the case of defective tests, the Castilian president of La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, has pronounced: "It can happen to anyone, the market has become a souk."

In an interview on Antena3, Page explained that making purchases now in the world market is little less than facing "a pitched battle" in which the administrations try to close purchases "with forced marches".

The President of Castilla-La Mancha has explained that the material provided by Health has not reached his community. In his case, the purchases, he said, "are made by telephone" and the material that is acquired is not the same as that purchased by Health since that acquired by the Manchego Executive requires blood collection.
