According to the local trade union, a lack of oral protection in the departments has led to changed routines. Staff at two of Sahlgrenska's emergency departments and mava, the medical emergency department, are now urged to no longer use oral protection in the care of patients. The union is seriously considering not following the recommendations of the Public Health Authority.

The municipality has requested a response during the Thursday afternoon. If no answer has been received from the employer then, the union will send the question to the Swedish Work Environment Authority.

According to Marga Brisman, deputy regional chief of the Västra Götaland region, it is a strained situation with protective equipment in the region. What the situation looks like at Sahlgrenska she cannot answer because it is covered by confidentiality.

Worried staff

SVT News West has for a couple of days received e-mails from worried healthcare personnel at Sahlgrenska Hospital, and told about changing routines regarding protective equipment. Where it was previously required both mouth guard and visor for those who worked with covid 19 patients, it is considered today enough with the latter.

Those who have contacted the editorial staff have been afraid that this increases the risk that healthcare personnel themselves are infected with coronavirus - and that it further increases the risk for patients.

The Gothenburg Post has been met by the same fears.
