"He has shown mild symptoms but is otherwise in good health and has been working from home as usual in recent days," the Royal House writes in a statement.

Prince Charles's wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, has also been tested but the test was negative. The couple are now self-insulating at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. According to British media sources, they are in good spirits and the prince is not bedridden.

Prince Charles, 71, and Duchess Camilla, 72, both belong to the risk group urged by the UK Government to avoid social contacts over the next 12 weeks to reduce the spread of infection and strain on health care.

The Royal House writes that it is not possible to say how the prince became infected when he had a large number of public commitments in recent weeks.
