Police check the travel certificates in Paris on March 23, 2020. - Bastien Louvet / SIPA

  • The Interior Ministry asked the police on Wednesday to give their FFP2 masks to caregivers.
  • In the police unions, these instructions go awry.
  • Several organizations call on their members to no longer check exit certificates, to protest against the lack of means of protection.

The police "sacrificed" in the light of the shortage of masks to fight against the coronavirus. This is in any case denounced by the Union of Commissioners of the National Police (SCPN), this Wednesday. In question, an instruction from the Minister of the Interior asking the police to donate the masks in their possession to the nursing staff. "There is therefore a shortage of masks," points out the union.

Mask war: faced with the spread of #COVID ー 19, @Place_Beauvau requests that all # FFP2 masks in the police force be donated to #ARS. So there is a shortage of masks, and the police are sacrificed! # confinementjour9 #CoronaPandemie

- National Police Commissioners SCPN (@ScpnCommissioner) March 25, 2020

According to information from 20 Minutes , the instructions of Christophe Castaner have been declined in the major directions of the national police. In a note from the central public security directorate (DCSP), which employs almost half of the police force, the hierarchy writes: "The Ministry of the Interior makes available to the Ministry of Health its stocks of FFP2 masks. Consequently, you will immediately deliver [...] the stocks of FFP2 masks, expired and not expired, present in your departments. "

Police services are authorized to maintain a stock for forensic scientists. And the DCSP adds: "The entire operation must be completed no later than tomorrow March 26, 2020."

"We want to send the police to the slaughterhouse"

While organizations representing the police have been pressuring the Interior Ministry for several weeks to obtain more means of protection against the coronavirus, this announcement is very badly received. "The Interior Ministry hijacks the FFP2 masks of the police, denounces Alliance national police, second union of peacekeepers. Already the police didn't have much to protect themselves […], now we want to send them clearly to the slaughterhouse! "

If Alternative Police says for its part to wait for the "official announcement" of this measure and recalls its support for caregivers, the (minority) peacekeepers' union expresses its concern. "There is no question that the police continue to work without a minimum of protection and to expose themselves more and more to the contamination of the Covid-19. "

Alliance and Alternative join the call of the Unsa police launched on Tuesday and call on the police to no longer monitor compliance with the confinement rules, in order to denounce the lack of protective measures for the officers.
