The Expo 2020 Dubai Steering Committee holds a meeting with the International Office of Exhibitions and participants of the global event on March 30th, for further consultations on the effects and developments of Corona, coinciding with the confirmation of an employee infected with the virus.

"We continue to follow the global situation with regard to the Covid-19 virus since it began spreading," a spokesman for "Expo 2020 Dubai" said in an e-mailing to the media on Wednesday.

He explained that the plans and preparations will be reviewed periodically, in line with the instructions and directives issued by the UAE and relevant international parties.

"We remain committed to hosting the International Expo as we all imagined them, in order to showcase the best models of cooperation and innovation from around the world," the spokesman added.

He pointed out that any decision on the "International Expo" would be a collective decision, issued in consultation with the participants and the parties concerned.

The exhibition organizers revealed that one of the employees was infected with Corona virus, and that precautionary measures have been taken to prevent the spread of the virus.

The spokesman confirmed the existence of the case, and said, "Everyone who communicates or contacts this person is committed to the protocols of the Dubai Health Authority, including screening, quarantine and self-isolation procedures."

A source familiar with the matter said that the injured employee works for the Expo 2020 Dubai office.

The World Expo is scheduled to start in Dubai by next October and continue until April 2021, and according to previous estimates, it is expected to attract about 11 million foreign visitors.

The international exhibition, designed to showcase the achievements of nations, takes place every five years, lasts for a period of six months, and attracts millions of visitors from all over the world.

The spread of the virus forced many countries to close their borders, suspend flights, impose curfews, disrupt studies, cancel several events, prevent public gatherings, and close mosques and churches.
