March 23, 2020 Alex Salmond was acquitted of sexual assault charges against nine women when he was Scottish prime minister. The BBC reports it.A jury found the former Scottish National Party (SNP) leader not guilty of twelve charges of sexual assault he was accountable for, while for another, insufficient evidence was found.
A further charge of sexual assault on a tenth woman had previously been dismissed by prosecutors. Salmond said he was innocent of all the charges during the two-week trial.
He told the court that the charges against him for his alleged conduct were "deliberate political inventions".
