March 23, 2020 Alex Salmond was acquitted of sexual assault charges against nine women when he was Scottish prime minister. The BBC reports it.

A jury found the former Scottish National Party (SNP) leader not guilty of twelve charges of sexual assault he was accountable for, while for another, insufficient evidence was found.

A further charge of sexual assault on a tenth woman had previously been dismissed by prosecutors. Salmond said he was innocent of all the charges during the two-week trial.

He told the court that the charges against him for his alleged conduct were "deliberate political inventions".
