- Most had underlying illnesses. But a man in his 60s, who passed away yesterday, made a very prosperous impression, even though we do not know his medical history. Many were shocked when they learned that he had died, says doctor Jihan Mohamed, who is a board member of the Swedish Malay Medical Association.

According to Stockholm Region, nine people with confirmed Covid-19 have so far died, but they do not want to state where the deceased belong.

Many live narrowly

According to Jihan Mohamed, five of the six deceased with Swedish-Malay background lived in the Järva area of Stockholm, which consists of the districts Kista / Rinkeby and Spånga / Tensta. The sixth was a resident of Järfälla municipality.

- I don't know why the Järva area stands out when it comes to deceased people in Covid-19, but many live narrowly here. Several generations can live in the same apartment and it can record. At the same time, we also know that public health is generally poorer in vulnerable areas like Järva, says Jihan Mohamed, who himself grew up in the area.

Cultural aspects may have been recorded

She also believes that cultural aspects may have played a role in the spread of infection.

- In the Somali culture it is important to socialize, support and visit each other, especially if someone is ill. When the virus spread to Sweden, there was not much information in Somali and many lived as usual.

Therefore, the Swedish Malay Medical Association has now released information about the corona virus in Somali.

- We have informed, among other things, that it is important to keep social distance, but also that you should be at home with symptoms. It's about changing behavior, says Jihan Mohamed.
