March 22, 2020 "Diagnosed cases and deaths will increase in the coming days. Critical days are coming for which we must prepare. The risk is everywhere, but we must make a greater effort." Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said this in a speech to the nation in the midst of the coronavirus emergency which sees Spain second in number of infections in Europe after Italy. "On the health front, the most serious problem is the number of people to be treated, and then there is another essential front: staying at home, I know it's hard, but we must go on," he added.

"We are facing the greatest mobilization of resources for the acquisition of medical supplies and we will beat the virus together," added the premier. For Sanchez it is "important to extend the number of tests as much as possible to know the exact number of infected people. We have distributed 355,000 homologated tests. Between 15,000 and 20,000 tests are produced every day".

In France, the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, announced in a press conference that the Scientific Council that supports President Emmanuel Macron and the government at this stage of the Coronavirus epidemic will "meet on Monday to decide on the duration and extension" the confinement of the French population. The minister added that "the epidemic will continue to worsen" until "the effects of confinement" are visible.

The new death toll for coronaviruses in the United Kingdom is 233 victims, after the death of 53 other infected people. Local authorities have announced this, explaining that the number of cases of contagion in Great Britain has risen to 5,018. The British authorities also carried out tests on the infection for 72,818 people.
