Italy on Saturday recorded a new record number of deaths in the Corona virus in 24 hours, amounting to 793, raising the total to 4825 deaths in one month, according to civil defense figures.

Italy, which witnessed the outbreak of the virus a month ago, is the most affected country in the world.

Also, the Italian authorities counted 6,557 new cases of the epidemic in another record number of concern.

The largest number of deaths (546) was recorded in the Lombardy region (north), in addition to about half of the new casualties.

Local authorities have asked Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte to approve "wider coercive measures" and impose "new restrictions" that are more severe than preventing gatherings and more stringent than those imposed on movements since March 10.

"It is really time to do so," wrote Bergamo Mayor Giorgio Gore and District Director Gianfranco Gavorelli in a letter to the Prime Minister.

They added that "the situation in Lombardy is turning into a tragedy, and this is unfortunately more evident in our province of Bergamo, where we witness these days the death of many men and women ... amid a failure even to organize a farewell worthy of them."

And they continued, "Looking at the statistics, it is not possible today to rely solely on the common sense of citizens in respecting rules subject to different interpretations." They said, "The transfers are too many."
