Tunisian President Qais Said announced today, Friday, the imposition of a general quarantine in the country, without specifying the date of its entry into force, after the increase in the number of cases registered with the virus Covid-19.

The quarantine, according to what was stated in a speech by Saeed after the presidency of the National Security Council meeting, includes measures, including preventing travel between cities, except in cases of extreme necessity, provided that the government will later define detailed measures for public quarantine, including the date of its commencement and the duration of its application.

He stressed the necessity of hitting the monopolists in the vital products in these difficult times for Tunisia and the countries of the world.

Saeed called on judicial authorities to join hands and punish all monopolists, especially in food products.

On Friday, the Tunisian authorities registered 15 new cases of coronavirus in a period not exceeding 24 hours, bringing the total number of infected people to 54.

The Tunisian Ministry of Health also announced that the first case of corona virus death in Tunisia was confirmed to an elderly woman (75 years old) who had returned from Turkey on March 16, 2020.
