This Friday, deputies and senators were to meet again in Congress in Yamoussoukro to start examining the modification of the Electoral Code. But finally in a press release published Thursday evening, the presidency announces that due to the epidemic, which makes it “ difficult to hold parliamentary meetings, the President of the Republic, given the urgency, will proceed to the modification of the Electoral Code by way of order . "

The statement added that the change " will take into account the points of agreement of the second phase of the political dialogue ".

After several weeks of negotiations between the government, political parties and civil society earlier this year, the opposition had slammed the door denouncing an attempt to force the government through.

Prime Minister Amadou Gon Coulibaly had then estimated that there were four points of agreement in principle: citizen sponsorship of candidates, raising the deposit from 20 to 50 million CFA francs, the minimum rate of votes for to be reimbursed this deposit lowered to 5% ... Agreement also, according to the Prime Minister, on provisions against electoral transhumance.

“ The dialogue took place, it was inclusive, everyone was present. There have been open discussions and I welcome the points of agreement ”declared Amadou Gon Coulibaly a month ago.
