From Friday March 20 and for the weekend, the waterways on the banks, the Esplanade des Invalides and the Champ-de-Mars in Paris are prohibited. Mayor Anne Hidalgo and the prefect of police, Didier Lallement, have announced the ban on all travel and gatherings in these busy places in the capital.

"In some areas, attendance remains far too high, to the detriment of containment measures," say the mayor and the prefect, while in the city, green spaces have already been closed.

Local residents, people working in the sector or deliverers, may waive the ban with the necessary supporting documents, they said in a joint statement. On the lawns of the Esplanade des Invalides, residents will not benefit from any exemption.
