The Libyan National Accord government confirmed the civilian casualties in indiscriminate shelling targeting the capital, Tripoli, and welcomed the UN call to end hostilities to make way for efforts to confront the threat of the Corona virus.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Health in the National Accord Government, Amin Al Hashemi, said today, Thursday, that a random indiscriminate shelling of several neighborhoods in Tripoli yesterday killed five civilians and wounded five others.

The official added that the indiscriminate shells hit the homes of the victims in the areas of Ain Zara and Bab bin Ghashir, and material losses were recorded as a result of shells falling in a number of other locations.

The "Barkan Al-Ghazab" operation of the Al-Wefaq forces announced yesterday evening the killing of a woman and the injury of two, after a shell fired by the militia of retired Major General Khalifa Haftar fell on a car carrying her in the Bab Bin Ghashir area (downtown Tripoli).

The Al-Wefaq government forces announced yesterday to repel an attack by Haftar militias in the axis of Ain Zara (south of Tripoli), and said that their heavy artillery targeted an Emirati armored vehicle belonging to the Haftar militia while trying to infiltrate the lines of government forces' concentration.

Stop fighting
In the same context, the Presidential Council of the Government of Al-Wefaq said - in a statement today - that it welcomes the internationalist call to stop the hostilities, affirming "acceptance of every effort that protects our citizens and all residents of Libya from this pandemic", and his concern for a cease-fire in accordance with international resolutions.

But he affirmed retaining his right to respond to "the daily attacks against civilians, facilities and civilian facilities", and called on the international community to address "the aggressor directly to stop his violations and crimes."

The statement also called for the reopening of oil fields and ports, and the resumption of exports under the management of the National Oil Corporation, considering that oil is "the only source of income for the Libyan people."

Last Tuesday, the United Nations and Western and Arab countries called on both parties to the conflict in Libya to immediately stop hostilities to confront the threat of the new Corona epidemic.

The National Accord government declared a state of emergency across the country on Saturday, in a move that includes closing land borders and air ports to prevent the Corona outbreak.
