The Madrid Municipal Police Corps has suffered its first death from coronavirus. This is Juan Sánchez, a 58-year-old agent assigned to the Vicinalvaro Integral Unit tomorrow morning and with previous serious respiratory problems , police sources have confirmed to Europa Press.

The agent had been on medical leave for these reasons since late February for his lung problems. Coronavirus infection has aggravated these pathologies and has died. Juan belonged to the 32nd promotion of the Madrid Municipal Police and was highly appreciated by his colleagues.

"We feel from the heart to transmit that our partner, despite his struggle, has not been able to overcome this situation. A hug to family and friends of Juan, from the Vicálvaro District Unit," read the tweet written this afternoon by the Professional Collective of the Madrid Municipal Police.

The agent had to carry an air machine to facilitate breathing when he worked and despite everything he kept going to work. "He knew he had a disease but he wanted to stay active," said one of his colleagues.
