• Direct Coronavirus, last minute

The state of alarm decreed by the central government requires paying attention to groups in situations of vulnerability and risk of exclusion, such as prostitution, among many others. The confinement of obligatory compliance, under the surveillance of the security forces, has definitively closed the streets and paralyzed economic activity, and those who exercise, or have practiced until now, prostitution, are not left out.

Except for specific exceptions and with weighty motives, circulation through the streets is restricted and prostitutes have perceived this measure, although "necessary", as a setback that has hit the ground running.

A 42-year-old transsexual prostitute consulted by this newspaper, who identifies with a false name like Amanda , explains that “when the state of alarm was decreed, like everyone else, I had to lock myself up at home and stop going out. The measure is necessary, of course, but it is true that a risk group like us is affected. It's a bitch .

"We are more vulnerable"

The complicated situation of large numbers of people who practice prostitution has been aggravated by the Covid-19 crisis. "We, in and of ourselves, were already running many risks when we were exercising before the state of alarm, now much more, we are very vulnerable", explains Amanda, who practices in a municipality in the province and who prefers to remain anonymous through the name false.

The impact of the decreed isolation is obvious for prostitution, which, in the case of the capital of La Plana, has its activity in areas such as that of Caminàs . “These days we have already noticed, and we will continue to notice, a significant drop in work. In our case, they pay us for a direct contact and it is the client who has to give us the money, therefore, logically, this crisis makes it impossible for us to earn money, ”regrets the same woman.

Likewise, the prostitute indicates that “we are also not seeing that there are clients who, for example, ask us to go to their house, there is fear and it is a risk that we do not want to run, nor do they. The activity is totally stopped these days ». " A few days ago, work got bad, we noticed less activity, but now we no longer work directly ," he regrets.

Contagiousness

It should be noted that the coronavirus appears to be transmitted “through close contact with respiratory secretions that are generated by a sick person's cough or sneeze. Its contagiousness depends on the amount of the virus in the airways. These secretions would infect another person if they come into contact with their nose, their eyes or their mouth, "according to the Ministry of Health recalls on its website. For this reason, Amanda indicates that “there is no way to prevent the virus in our work. Closeness, kissing ... Everything has its risk ». Thus, the same does not happen as with STDs (sexually transmitted diseases), before which there are 'barriers' such as the use of condoms.

" It is very difficult to be with a client and perform sexual practices without kissing or hugging, the risk is there, " insists the prostitute who has offered to offer her testimony. Although he believes that the authorities should pay more attention to this group in such a situation, it is difficult for him to list measures that would be optimal. And it is that "we depend on what we work, there is no more," she insists.

At the moment, mutual collaboration between colleagues seems to be an alternative among prostitutes. " We are helping each other a lot with the issue of expenses , when we depend on such a situation, we collaborate and we are pending from each other," she explains.

The cases are especially more worrisome among those who do not have a fixed home. The prostitute admits that “I have a friend, a prostitute too, who is from Bolivia and had nowhere to live. It was also very difficult for me to bring her with me, I only have one room and the apartment is not mine. Finally, he has found a place in Córdoba . I keep an eye on her every day to know that she is fine ».

"Never stop like this"

For this woman, "never before has a crisis affected our collective so much". The consulted, who stresses that in specialized portals in contacts is already warning about the situation , assures that "it is the first time that we notice such a break in the world of prostitution."

Days before the state of alarm was decreed (on March 13), he states that "there was no fear of any kind among the clients ." Thus, he adds that people who paid money in exchange for sex did not specify avoiding contacts such as kisses or hugs; sexual practices proceeded normally. Prostitutes hope that the situation will change or that they can somehow find a solution to their situation, especially a delicate one.

In another order of things, it should be remembered that yesterday the Trans Visibility Day took place in the worst scenario of participation. On the other hand, sources from the Castelló LGTBI collective, who recently sealed a collaboration agreement with Energy Control , recently joined some recommendations given for those who resort to the phenomenon known as 'chemsex', that is, to carry out sexual practices under consumption of drugs. Given the alarm situation, it is urged not to leave the house or attend parties where these practices are carried out.
