On Tuesday, German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced after a videoconference with European leaders that the European Union would ban foreigners from entering European territory for 30 days to fight the coronavirus.

The European Union closes its borders to foreign nationals. European Union member states unanimously decided on Tuesday to ban entry of people outside the 27 bloc for 30 days in order to stem the pandemic of new coronavirus, German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced .

A unanimous decision

The decision was made following a videoconference between the leaders of European countries. In her press conference, the German Chancellor said that EU member states "all agree to impose an" entry ban, "with a few" minor exceptions.
