Italy, the European country paying the highest price for the coronavirus pandemic, surpassed the 2,000 death mark on Monday with 349 deaths in the past 24 hours, according to a latest report.

A total of 2,158 people lost their lives, including 1,420 in the Milan region alone (Lombardy, north of the country). Furthermore, the contagion is not showing any signs of slowing down, since the health authorities have detected an additional 3,200 positive cases.
