  • Redoine Faïd, was sentenced on appeal to 28 years in prison by the Pas-de-Calais Assize Court for the attack on an armored van in 2011.
  • The accused, who had started a hunger strike, has been absent since the start of his trial.
  • He had already condemned to 25 years of imprisonment for his role of "organizer" of a robbery missed in 2010 having cost the life to a municipal policewoman.

Ten years more than at first instance. The multi-repeat robber, Redoine Faïd, was sentenced on Friday, on appeal, to 28 years in prison by the Pas-de-Calais assize court for the attack on an armored van in 2011.

Aged 47, the "king of escape" was tried in particular for theft by organized gang with threat of a weapon, destruction of the property of others, violence in meetings and association of criminals.

Hunger-strike

Absent since the start of his trial, Redoine Faïd had started a hunger strike on February 20 to protest against his conditions of detention. He again refused, this Friday, to be removed from his cell to appear in court.

On October 19, 2017, the North Assize Court sentenced him to 18 years of criminal imprisonment, recognizing him guilty, with four other accomplices, of having explosively attacked an armored van of the Loomis company on a road National of Pas-de-Calais on March 17, 2011, stealing more than two million euros.

Redoine Faïd, Saïd Agouni, held for the logistician, and another accomplice were arrested in a snack bar near Lille, in June 2011. Saïd Agouni was sentenced to 15 years in prison, the same sentence as in first instance. Fahri Berisa, the third accused in this trial, against whom two years' imprisonment had been requested, was acquitted.

Death of a municipal policewoman

Already sentenced to 25 years' imprisonment for his role as “organizer” of a failed robbery in 2010 that cost the life of a municipal policewoman, Redoine Faïd is imprisoned in solitary confinement at the Vendin-le-Vieil prison center, in Pas-de-Calais, one of the most secure prisons in France.

The sentence, which has just been pronounced on appeal, is confused with this 25-year sentence. The court also sentenced him to a ban on carrying weapons and staying in the Hauts-de-France for five years.

In 2017, Redoine Faïd was also sentenced to 10 years in prison for his escape from Lille-Sequedin prison, in the North, in April 2013. He appealed this decision. He is still to be tried for his spectacular escape from Réau prison, in Seine-et-Marne, in July 2018.
