The goal is for more people to cycle in the county. According to the regional bicycle plan that, among other things, the Swedish Transport Administration is behind, 20 percent of those who live in Stockholm County choose the bicycle in front of the car in 2030.

"Lots of places where it doesn't work"

But the bike plan does not match the condition of the bike lanes.

In connection with an inventory of the county's bike lanes made in 2012, it was found that less than one percent of the bike lanes lived up to the safety standard set by the Swedish Transport Administration. Among other things, the bike lanes are too narrow, not sufficiently separated from the drivers or lack of lighting.

- Usually it's too narrow. Sometimes two bikers may not even meet, says Jon Jogensjö, who blogs about cycling.

And Stockholm Traffic Citizen Council, Daniel Hlldén (MP), agrees that many of the cycle lanes do not measure up.

- We have many places where it does not work, he says.
