Two trains collided - on Thursday - in the Rawd Al-Farag area between Imbaba and Ramses, west of Cairo, causing injuries, while the Railways announced the suspension of all flights due to bad weather conditions.

The collision took place between trains 991 and 989 coming from Upper Egypt towards Cairo, between Imbaba and Ramses stations, where the front of one of them collided with the last vehicle of the second train, which resulted in the injury of 23 people, according to preliminary data issued by the Ministry of Health and Population.

Ministry spokesman Khaled Mujahid said that 17 ambulances had moved towards the crash site of the two trains, stressing that there were no deaths so far.

Social media pioneers shared photos and videos of the collision of two trains, one of which was damaged by heavy rains and bad weather, and the photos show the presence of ambulances and police at the site of the accident.

Egypt has witnessed many bloody train accidents that have claimed hundreds of lives in recent decades.

According to observers, these accidents are mainly due to the deterioration of trains and the rail network and the neglect by the authorities of their repair file.

In August 2017, 49 people were killed and more than 100 injured in a passenger train collision in the coastal governorate of Alexandria (north).

While the biggest and worst tragedy of trains occurred in Egypt in February 2002, when a fire engulfed several vehicles from a passenger train heading from Cairo to Aswan (south), killing more than 350 people at the time.
